About the Teacher

Tom Rimmer

Tom grew up in Tauranga, and after completing secondary school, he moved to Wellington to pursue acting. While living in Wellington, Tom studied the Meisner acting technique at the Wellington Actor's Studio.

Tom has performed in numerous plays, which include roles in productions of 'Ladies Night' and William Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', and in children's productions and pantomimes for the National Children's Theatre and Kapitall Kids' Theatre.

Tom has also acted on screen in TV shows like the Gibson Group's satirical series 'Face Lift' and Bryan Bruce's 'The Investigator'. His film credits include a role in Danny Mulheron's horror comedy 'Fresh Meat', and he donned some heavy prosthetics in 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'.

As a writer, Tom's one-man play 'Writer's Block' (which he also performed and produced) was staged in Wellington in 2011, and his play 'Waiting For Gaga' was one of the top four entries in the 2012 Young and Hungry Playwright's Initiative. He has also written for the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Kapiti, and has written several shows for Kids Up Front Performing Arts Academy.

Tom has also worked as a children's party entertainer, and he has worked as a pre-school teacher since 2011, and as a drama teacher and supervisor for Kids Up Front Performing Arts Academy since 2015.
